Racing at Hayward Field, Thompson’s explosive start and fluid acceleration propelled him past an elite field, matching his personal best and firmly staking his claim as one of the world’s top sprinters.
Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain finished second in 9.91 seconds, with American Trayvon Bromell close behind in 9.94. Brandon Hicklin (9.98) and fellow Jamaican Akeem Blake (10.03) rounded out the top five.
